Writing, reading, style, and history—one girl at a time. This course celebrates not only the American Girl dolls and magazine, but the literature and history of American Girls. Visit different times in America’s history with the girls through portions of the American Girl series, non-fiction text, arts, crafts, games, food, and music. Learn about the history of the dolls themselves, and what prompted Pleasant Rowland to create them in the first place. We’ll also learn about the literature connected to American Girls featuring authors like Connie Porter, Valerie Tripp, Ann Martin, and Laurence Yep. And we’ll explore the two main genres of American Girl literature: historical and realistic fiction. We will work on creating both group and independent stories in these two genres. Owning a doll is NOT required. Remember: every girl is already an American Girl!
