Are you a teen interested in working in the fields editing and publishing? Would you like to experience firsthand the work that goes into producing a literary journal? If so, you’ll be glad to hear that Canvas Teen Literary Journal is offering a camp for you.
Over the course of our Summer 2015 production, Canvas is offering an camp to teens who are interested in experiencing what it takes to edit, layout, produce, finance, promote, and publish a successful literary journal. Overseen and run by the members of Canvas’ teen board, you will be guided through the process of publication by teens who have been in your position, understand your concerns, and who will work to help you identify your strengths in the field of editing and publishing.
Participants will be brought on for the entire publication, from the reading and rating of pieces before our editorial meeting to the publication of the new Summer issue. Participants will learn about and experience through example, but not necessarily work on, every aspect of Canvas: editing, cover design, newsletter layout, print layout, eBook layout, web content, publishing, finances, statistics, promotion, and social media. They will also have their names listed in the Summer 2015 issues as both Canvas Camp participants and copy editors.
Requirements: The camp requires that participants have access to a laptop, which will be used on a very regular basis, strong internet connection, and access their email often. Participants will also be required to attend one mandatory in-person group meeting at WAB on June 6th, time TBD, and are asked to check their email regularly and stay up on the Canvas email threads.
Duration: Eight weeks, May 30th-July 18th
