Facing It: Memory, Melancholia and Waking (Online)

Instructor(s): Aricka Foreman
Beginner Beginner Beginner

Through the works of Toni Morrison, Avashai Margalit, Tracy K. Smith, Richard Siken, James Baldwin, and others, we’ll explore the terrains of memory and melancholia. Students will create work that moves toward both the critical and creative, navigating the terrain of loss and grief and becoming something new/else in the “after.” Look for weekly readings/excerpts of no more than 10 pages, and writing prompts that will generate new work for peer review and support. This course is recommended for writers with experiences of cultural and personal trauma and loss, who are looking for doorways into their work.
