This course is designed for any writer interested in the textures (sound, rhythm) words create. We will examine visual prompts and apply techniques of painting to words. What clues lie in landscapes, pout in portraits, shimmer in still life, needle narrative? How can we match our writing brush to give voice to the silent paint? Because poetry is a spoken art, like music, it has the advantage of unfolding meaning over time, to surprise and excite the reader. Students will be provided with samples to experiment with opening and closing lines, line break, perspective, and frame.
