If you are just starting out as a writer, or beginning to edit your own work, whether poetry or prose, this workshop will help you take into consideration the auditory patterns that affect the reader or listener generally on a subconscious level: alliteration, assonance, rhythm, rhyme. We’ll look at Anglo Saxon beats versus Latinate flourishes. We’ll discuss the virtues of sentence variation and of parallel constructions. Most of all, we’ll look into the subtle forms of onomatopoeia that happen on every level of sound choice, the way that sound IS sense. It can be the X factor that turns good writing into great writing.
