In this writing and performance class, students will learn five basic types of plays (comedy, tragedy, drama, melodrama, ritual), determine the plot for their own one-act play, create and write scenes, create and develop characters and action, and present a performance comprised of a variety of elements: a “mosaic” of their scenes. They will learn how to use their body as an instrument in the art of theater, learn lines and develop public speaking and acting skills, engage in reflection and critique activities, and take part in creative work that both respects and challenges them. Let’s put on a play!
