Plato’s Meno: On Learning, Not Learning, and What Virtue’s Got to Do with It

Instructor(s): Naomi Geier
Beginner Beginner Beginner

What makes learning possible? What’s the difference between someone who learns and someone who doesn’t? And why does learning matter in the first place? The Meno is a foundational text for understanding not only philosophy in general and Plato in particular, but also any moment at which anyone has ever tried to learn anything. We’ll spend eight weeks learning about learning through close reading and discussion of the Meno. No previous experience with Plato, the Classics, or philosophy is required; all you’ll need is a copy of the text, an inquiring mind, and a willingness to have fun thinking together.
