The Art of the Query Online Workshop

Instructor(s): Jac Jemc
Beginner Beginner

You have a solid manuscript and you’re ready to find it a home, but where do you start? Getting a book published takes time, consideration, and tons of research. Before an agent or publisher sees the fiction itself, they have to be drawn in by the query letter. In this six-week class we’ll explore how to find agents and publishers that might be a good fit for your work while hashing out the literary landscape and market. We’ll discuss when is the right time—career-wise, draft-wise—to begin submitting a manuscript and what to do if the process deviates from what you expect. We’ll look at examples of strong query letters, and then draft and workshop your own to ensure the craft of those letters is as strong and compelling as the novel or story collection you’re pitching.
