Learn the basic elements of playwriting and apply them to the writing of your own ten-minute play! We’ll cover craft elements of playwriting: inciting incidents, crafting characters with needs, showing not telling, why character voice is crucial, setting as a character, stage directions, cause/effect dialogue, how character traits define plot, and the development of a cathartic moment. Plays will be presented at the last class in a staged reading for the public. This is a perfect opportunity to complete a project to submit to Geva Theatre Center’s Young Writers Showcase (deadline March 1, showcase May 5).
