Location: WAB – 740 University Ave.
We will read from ancient and modern texts and work on writing prompts that focus on image-centered writing as a mystical or quasi-mystical process. We will explore Joseph Campbell’s monomyth and writing as a liminal, evocatory space. We will read from a variety of texts, including the Enuma Elish, the Bhagavad Gita, The Old and New Testaments, The Lesser Key Of Solomon, The Egyptian Book of the Dead, Anne Sexton, James Wright, Stephen Dunn, B.H. Fairchild, Jack Gilbert and others. Writing exercises utilizing mythic and evocatory practice and workshopping will follow. This class is eight weeks from June 21 – August 16.
