W&B/Geva Theatre Center’s 14th Annual Regional Playwrights Festival

Writers & Books is pleased to announce that once again they will be collaborating with Geva Theatre Center to give regional playwrights the opportunity to bring their works to local audiences.
These two arts organizations continue their long collaboration nurturing new talent from the greater Rochester area,
Writers & Books and Geva Theatre Center are seeking plays and playwrights for its Regional Playwrights Festival to be held on April 21 and April 28, 2008 in Geva’s Nextstage theater.
The festival gives area playwrights the opportunity to have their works publicly performed by actors with the help of Geva directors and dramaturgs. Plays must be postmarked afterJanuary 13, and no later than January 28, 2008.
The purpose of the Regional Playwrights Festival is to give promising local writers a chance to hear their work performed, thereby gaining perspective and insight essential to developing a professional play.
The festival will feature as many noteworthy new works as time and funds will allow, showcasing a range of regional talent.
Submission Guidelines
- The Festival is open to writers now living or having lived within the five-county area: Monroe, Livingston, Wayne, Ontario and Genesee.
• Plays for consideration must be submitted (postmarked or hand-delivered) between January 14 and January 28, 2008 to Writers & Books, 740 University Ave, Rochester, NY 14607. Manuscripts should be marked for the attention of Jean Ryon, Regional Playwrights Festival.
• Submissions must include clear contact information: name, address, phone number and email (if available).
• Authors wishing to have their works returned to them should include a self-addressed stamped envelope with each manuscript.
• Musicals will not be accepted.
• Entrants must submit the play in its entirety.
• All plays should be typed with each page numbered.
• Writers may submit up to two plays for consideration.
• Plays that have been submitted for consideration to previous festivals may be submitted, if there has been significant work done on the script since the last submission.
• There are no restrictions on length or content.
• Selections will be made by March 24, 2008 Selected authors will be notified by mail or phone and given a date on which their play will be read. Authors are expected to attend rehearsal on the day of their play’s appearance in the festival.
