The Big Read

Catch and Release

The Maltese Falcon

Cafes throughout the Rochester area have been given free copies of The Maltese Falcon as part of Catch and Release Program of the Big Read.

The books are intended to be picked up and read by the café patrons and taken home with them if they would like, in order to encourage reading of the book.

The term ‘Catch and Release’ come from the world of fishing in which fishermen catch a fish and then release it in order that others might enjoy the same privilege. Inside the front cover of each book is a short description of the program so that the reader will understand what they are being encourage to do: read the book and then return it for another reading to enjoy.

Below is a list of ‘Catch and Release’ sites, which will be updated as new sites are added.

Coffee Connection, South Avenue
Spin Caffe, Park Avenue
Starry Nites, University Avenue
Boulder Coffee, Alexander Street
Spot Coffee, East Ave
Java's, Gibbs St.

Equal Grounds, South Ave
Camille's, Park Ave

These events are part of The Big Read,
an initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts
in partnership with the Institute of Museum and Library Services and Arts Midwest.
