Calling All Playwrights & Writers!

Dear Playwright,

We are pleased to inform you that Geva Theatre Center and Writers & Books will once again collaborate to give regional playwrights the opportunity to bring their works to local audiences.

Here are the details: on the evenings of Monday, April 30 and Monday, May 14, 2018, both full-length and one-act plays written by regional (living now or having lived within the six county-area: Monroe, Livingston, Wayne, Ontario, Genesee, and Orleans) playwrights, and selected through an open competitive process, will be given a developmental reading by professional actors at Geva.

Plays for consideration must be submitted between January 2 and January 31, 2018. We have started using a new method for submission. Everything will be submitted using the website through this link: This window will be live for submissions only during the month of January. If you have any questions about this and need assistance, please call or email Alexa Scott-Flaherty at 473-2590 x106, for help. Plays that have been submitted in the past may be resubmitted if there has been significant work done on the script since the last submission. The final selections will be made by March 23, and winners will be notified by phone. Playwrights must be available to attend the reading and the rehearsal for the reading.

The purpose of our festival is to give promising regional writers a chance to hear their work aloud, and thereby gain information they need to rewrite and to take the script to another level of development. We do not think of this as a contest, with strict rules, tangible prizes, and clear winners and losers. We will feature as many noteworthy new works as time and money will allow, while showcasing a range of regional talent. We ask that you do not submit musicals and that you do not submit more than two scripts at one time. Other than those, there are no rules regarding length, content, or format, except that we ask you to include clear contact information. We do not wish to limit your imaginations by setting arbitrary guidelines.

We are very eager for the writers in the region to know about this event and to consider submitting a script. This event has been of interest and benefit to writers of our region for over twenty years. We hope you will tell your friends and hope to see you at the readings!
