Lu Highsmith

Lu Highsmith is a writer, publisher, promoter, and spoken word artist who has performed at festivals, coffee houses, nursing homes, schools, churches, art galleries, clubs and community events throughout western New York and beyond. Highsmith’s poems have been published in journals and anthologies as well as in her two poetry collections Vicissitudes: The Ups and Downs of Life, 2008 and Ascension into Love, 2010. She has been featured poet at MoodMakers Bookstore and a “Woman to Watch” in The Rochester Democrat and Chronicle. Her first CD, “Ascension” is a collaboration with her Grammy-nominated musician/composer husband, Jimmie Highsmith Jr. Lu is the founder and Slam Master of Roc Bottom Poets, co-founder of the artists advocacy group CSWA (Culture Starts With Art), and for eight years has been hosting the “Flowetic Rhythms” Open Mic @ Gallery One.
