Martin Walls
Martin Walls is a Witter Bynner Poetry Fellow of the US Library of Congress, named to that position by former Poet Laureate Ted Kooser. His second collection of poems, Commonwealth, is available from March Street Press; it is the follow-up to Small Human Detail in Care of National Trust, published in 2000 by New Issues Press. Walls' individual poems have been published in The Nation, The Ohio Review, Salt Hill, Epoch, The Gettysburg Review, Boulevard, Five Points, Kestrel, Blackbird, Commonweal, Beloit Poetry Journal, and elsewhere. Walls’ other awards include a 1998 The Nation/"Discovery" prize, a Breadloaf Writers Conference scholarship, and two community arts grants from the Syracuse Cultural Resources Council. He is on the faculty of the Syracuse Writer’s Voice program, part of the Syracuse YMCA Y Arts curriculum. Born in Brighton, England, Walls now lives in Baldwinsville, New York with his wife, Christine, and son Alexander. He is managing editor of Bentley-Hall, Inc., which publishes International Musician and Making Music magazines.
