Where’s Walden III

Works by Emily English

A Tree’s Life

Fear, terror
SEED
Warmth, safety
IN GROUND
Small, trampled
SPROUT
Bigger, stronger
SMALL TREE
Huge, magnificent
FULL GROWN
Two loggers, bring fear
DEATH
Sharp, falling
AX
Decaying, warmth
DYING
Death.

What He Sees

Whispering endless secrets,
a river winds through a forest.
Echoing throughout the woods
the wind’s music sounds like tinkling bells.
Slivers of life
are breathed on the morning dew
by the sun.
A majestic stag
walks through the bushes,
a sharp rancid smell makes him stop.
He turns his head and stares only as a deer can.
What he sees destroys him.
It’s a fawn’s dead body,
the body of his daughter.

He runs.
