Where’s Walden III

Works by Kristen Klein

A Piece of Heaven

I can smell some gassy cars
racing across the ground.
I can hear an airplane flying ’round
and ’round.

I can see some litter lying to
and fro.
I wonder what this place was like
a long time ago.

I bet it smelled fresh,
like pine needles or rain.
I bet it sounded sweet,
like the wind or something plain.

I bet you could see some flowers,
maybe a dandelion or two.
Also some great colors,
yellow, red, orange,
and some blue.

So that’s what this place was like,
maybe in 1027.
Sometimes compared to this world,
that place seems just like a heaven.

But there are some pieces of heaven here now,
and we call them forests, they really make you say, “wow.”

Ripples

Still…
A ripple…
More ripples…
Many ripples…
I am a ripple, a ripple in time.
There are billions of ripples, not only mine.

Like a part of a ripple that finishes quick,
I am here one second then gone in a tick.

But life is too short to dwell on that fact.
Negativity I need to lack.

But when I am gone I want to
be remembered as great,
not someone that makes peoples’ hearts
fill with hate.

I want my ripple long and fine,
all in the great big picture of time.
Many ripples…
Less ripples…
One ripple…
Still…
