Summer 2005 Youth Programs
Creative Writing Day Camps & Workshops for Children & Teens
General Information on SummerWrite 2005 Creative Writing Day Camps & Workshops for Children & Teens
- Group Size & Instructor Ratio
-
Workshops are limited to a total enrollment of 12 unless otherwise stated. Most workshops are led by one adult writer and a college intern assistant. We use only successful adult writers who have a flair for teaching creativity to children.
- Special Features
- Most workshops involve other art forms in addition to writing. Many take advantage of other arts institutions close by, like the Eastman House and the Memorial Art Gallery. Most workshops end with a publication and/or presentation.
- Facilities & Fun
- Our beautiful 1903 building on ArtWalk in the Neighborhood of the Arts [ map ] is recently renovated and landscaped to be fully wheelchair accessible, with five sun-lit, air-conditioned workshop rooms and a computer lab. We use the playgrounds next door for outdoor time over lunch. In addition, daily playground break-time or other outdoor activities are scheduled for each group. There are also a few programs at our Gell Center of the Finger Lakes, a 24-acre nature retreat.
- Food
- Participants bring their own lunches; refrigeration is available. Snacks and water for breaks are provided.
- Supervision & Hours
- Participants must be signed in and out. Supervision by staff and instructors is provided continuously from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. Supervision beyond these hours is available by contract for a fee of $3.00 per half-hour.
- Schedule
- We have SummerWrite workshops this year from Monday June 13 toFriday September 2, weekdays and some weekends.
For many programs, mornings and afternoons are two separate workshops which may be taken separately or together to make full days. We try to match them well, as most children and many teens take whole days (both workshops) and stay for lunch. Some programs are offered only as whole days and/or multiple weeks.
Full Day Discount: If you are taking two different classes, mornings and afternoons together, you may take $5 off each class, for a total discount of $10.
