Heather Lanier will be in conversation with Sally Bittner Bonn
Join us for a wide-ranging, interactive conversation between Heather Lanier, author of Raising a Rare Girl, and Sally Bittner Bonn, as they discuss parenting disabled children during the pandemic, re-entry and recovery, and sustaining a creative life.
Heather Lanier’s memoir, Raising a Rare Girl (Penguin, 2020) has been praised by Kim Brooks, author of Small Animals, as “an arresting and beautiful book about the transformative power of unconditional love.” Lanier has also published two award-winning poetry chapbooks, The Story You Tell Yourself and Heart-Shaped Bed in Hiroshima. Her essays and poems have been published in The Atlantic, The Sun, Salon, Brevity, Vela Magazine, and elsewhere; and her TED talk, “’Good’ and ‘Bad’ Are Incomplete Stories We Tell Ourselves,” has been viewed over two million times.
Sally Bittner Bonn, Writers & Books’ Director of Youth Education, is a writer, performer, and teaching artist whose creative work has been published in various anthologies and journals. She promotes disability awareness through her writing and speaking (www.oscar-go.org), sharing stories of raising her son, who happens to drive a power wheelchair.
