Athena Dixon will be in conversation with Kristen Gentry, Director of the Creative Writing program at SUNY Geneseo.

Drawing upon an unconventional nonfiction storytelling structure derived from the game MASH, Athena Dixon’s debut memoir-in-essays is a nostalgic, compelling journey of self-discovery. Unpacking life’s unexpected experiences, Dixon embarks on a winding, reminiscent road to find the answers to one of humankind’s most pressing questions: Why must I shrink to avoid disruption?

“Elegant in its prose, the strength of The Incredible Shrinking Woman lies in its unflinching depiction of what it means to be Black, fat, and female in America. Dixon’s haunting words will echo long after you close the final page, demanding to be fully seen, understood, and cherished.”

—Lara Lillibridge, author of Girlish: Growing Up in a Lesbian Home
