Bridging Silos: Collaborating for Environmental Health and Justice in Urban Communities

September 25, 2019 @ EST 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Free to Members | $5 General Public

Presentation and Book Signing with Katrina Smith Korfmacher

Low-income and marginalized urban communities often suffer disproportionate exposure to environmental hazards, leaving residents vulnerable to associated health problems. With her ground-breaking book, Korfmacher examines ways to collaborate across systems and sectors to address environmental health disparities. Bridging Silos studies three efforts to address long-standing challenges: childhood lead poisoning in Rochester; unhealthy built environments in Duluth, Minnesota; and pollution related to commercial ports and international trade in Southern California. The author advances strategies for moving beyond self-contained “silos” to effective collaboration among community groups, government agencies, academic institutions, and private institutions, each with a particular role to play.
