Drama! With a Beat! | Ages: 8-11
August 7 @ EST 1:00 pm - August 11 @ EST 4:00 pm$161.00
Do you ever think about where music comes from? In this skit-building camp we will explore a variety of sources that influence and inspire music from different cultures and time periods. We’ll examine how nature influences music, like birds creating melody and the tides of the sea creating rhythm. We’ll also study musical innovators such as Evelyn Glennie, deaf Scottish marimbist; Ellie Mannette and the Trinidad All-steel Percussion Orchestra; and many others who pioneered new ways of creating music. We’ll take what we learn and create skits to tell the story of music. We will work with a musician to add percussion pieces played on natural and ethnic instruments. We will look into the rhythms and sounds in the words we write. On the final day, we will perform our skits-with-a-beat for family and friends.
