The under-1000-word piece is an increasingly popular form. Short pieces present special craft problems, such as how to write “big” when given a restrictive word count. While providing a cordial and supportive environment, this critique class encourages students to write in the genre of their choice in under 1000 words. In addition to discussing craft issues, participants will gain tips on publication strategies and discovering and analyzing potential markets.
Len Messineo holds an MFA in Creative Writing from Wichita State University, an MA in playwrighting and directing. He has published in Shenandoah, Tampa Review, The Sun, Rosebud, Tennessee Review, New Novel Review, and many other magazines. Two of his plays were selected for presentation as part of the GEVA Regional Playwrighting Festival.
