In This Moment reads “Letter from Birmingham Jail”

January 15 @ EST 6:15 pm - 7:30 pm

Free – $20.00

Writers, photographers, and leaders from the In This Moment chapbook project gather to read “Letter from Birmingham Jail,” in honor of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. wrote “Letter from Birmingham Jail” in 1963 while imprisoned for leading nonviolent civil rights demonstrations in Alabama. The document explains why MLK believed people have a responsibility to follow just laws and a duty to break unjust ones.

The In This Moment chapbook project pairs 10 teams of Black writers and photographers with 10 Black leaders from across the city of Rochester, resulting in the annual publication of a series of 10 chapbooks. The project offers vital learning opportunities and reflection for all students and community members. Project teams and chapbook images are curated by local Black curator Amanda Chestnut. Copies of the chapbooks are available for free at Ampersand Books and Rochester Libraries.

This is an online event streamed via Zoom.
