Introduction to Fiction Writing

January 27, 2016 @ EST 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Do you want to write stories – or a novel – but aren’t sure where to start? In this class, we’ll cover the basics of craft: character, plot, setting, dialogue, and voice. We’ll discuss responding to feedback, why we write, abstract versus concrete language, techniques for using writer’s block to your advantage, and beliefs and fears around writing. With an emphasis on in-class writing and at-home revision, this course will use a variety of methods to loosen up the writing muscles and shape compelling, fantastic stories. If you’ve wanted to try your hand at writing, or are wondering how writing can be taught, this course is a great introduction to the craft, the art, and the thrill of writing fiction.
