Literary Conference – BOA Editions Reading & Conversation

April 27 @ EST 3:30 pm - 4:45 pm

Free – $20.00

Three poets read from and discuss new collections forthcoming from BOA Editions, Ltd.

Sheila Carter-Jones is the author of Every Hard Sweetness (BOA Editions, 2024), called “an extraordinary work of history and possibility” by author Aracelis Girmay. Her debut collection, Three Birds Deep (Broadside Lotus Press, 2012), was winner of the Naomi Long Madgett Poetry Book Award. A fellow of Cave Canem, the Callaloo Creative Writing Workshop, and the Sewanee Writers Conference, Carter-Jones also published the chapbooks Blackberry Cobbler Song and Crooked Star Dream Book.

Geffrey Davis’s forthcoming book, One Wild Word Away (BOA Editions, 2024) is described by Elizabeth Bradfield as a “fierce insistence to seek and offer tenderness to even the most brutal violence.” His second collection, Night Angler (BOA Editions, 2019), received the James Laughlin Award from the Academy of American Poets; and his debut, Revising the Storm (BOA Editions, 2014), received the A. Poulin, Jr. Poetry Prize and was a Hurston/Wright Legacy Award Finalist. He teaches in the Program in Creative Writing & Translation at the University of Arkansas and is a core faculty member of The Rainier Writing Workshop.

Matthew Gellman’s first book, Beforelight (BOA Editions, 2024), was selected by Tina Chang as the winner of the 2023 A. Poulin, Jr. Poetry Prize. Called a “daring, memorable new voice in American poetry and a spellbinding debut” by author Mark Wunderlich, the collection explores queer coming-of-age as a process of both becoming and unbecoming. A 2023–2024 National Endowment for the Arts Fellow, Gellman has received awards and honors from Brooklyn Poets, The Adroit Journal’s Djanikian Scholars Program, the Saltonstall Foundation for the Arts, the New York State Summer Writers Institute, and the Academy of American Poets.

Executive Director and Publisher Peter Conners has published nine books of nonfiction, fiction, and poetry, and has edited dozens of volumes of poetry and prose. In 2022, he published his debut novel Merch Table Blues (Manic D Press) and his first prose poetry collection in a decade, Beyond the Edge of Suffering (White Pine Press).
