Literary Conference – The Feminist Romance Novel

April 27 @ EST 6:30 pm - 7:45 pm

$15.00 – $20.00

The romance novel is a genre long-explored, in part due to its relatability. The rise of the Feminist Romance Novel has redefined this genre in the way that it centers women: their beliefs, desires, and agency. Tune in as three writers read brief excerpts from their work and share the importance of this genre.

Lauren Accardo’s Forever Adirondack Series (Penguin Random House) has been described by author Sarah Smith as “engrossing and heartfelt.” A romance author based in New York City, Accardo is represented by Eva Scalzo at Speilburg Literary Agency.

Elizabeth Johnston Ambrose (moderator) is the author of Imago Dei, 2021 winner of the Rattle Chapbook Poetry Prize in 2021. Her creative writing has been featured in such publications as Women Studies Quarterly and McSweeney’s, and in several anthologies. The recipient of a SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching, her academic and creative work focuses on representations of women in literature and popular culture. She teaches at Monroe Community College and facilitates a writing-as-therapy group at the Rochester Breast Cancer Coalition.

Elizabeth Everett is the author of two series, including The Secret Scientists of London Series, published by Penguin Random House. Her work has been called “fiercely feminist and intensely romantic” by Joanna Shupe and has received critical acclaim from BuzzFeed, Kirkus, Booklist, Publishers Weekly, PopSugar, Entertainment Weekly, and various other outlets. Everett’s novels are inspired by her admiration for rule breakers and belief in the power of love to change the world.

Sarah Micklem’s first novel, Firethorn (Scribner, 2004), was a Borders Original Voices Pick and a finalist for the 2005 Compton Crook Award. Its sequel, Wildfire (Scriber, 2009), has been described as a “fantastical ride filled with imagery, magic, and mayhem” by author Sherrilyn Kenyon. Her current book-length project is a feminist romance novel.
