Flash Fiction: Making the Most of the Super Short Form

Some writers can pack more into a one-page story than an entire novel. In this session, we’ll study writers who challenge our understanding of style, structure, and plot by telling a whole story in under 1,000 words. In-class writing exercises will help us try our hand at this form, practice the tools these writers use, and generate material for future stories of any length. We’ll read examples in fiction, but narrative writers of any genre are welcome to join.

Shoshana Akabas is a New York-based writer and teacher. She holds an MFA in fiction from Columbia University, where she taught writing for four years.
