Instructor: Wendy Low
Whether you aspire to write fantasy, science fiction, historical, or contemporary realist novels, you’ll want to develop the skills and discover the tools that successful fiction writers use to bring their stories to life. We will focus on examples and exercises that help develop characters, setting, and atmosphere; choosing point of view; and creating and sustaining interest through conflicts. We also will look at the use of dialogue and developing distinctive voices for different characters. You will leave the week with a fair amount of writing done and a bundle of tools and insights for becoming a novelist.
Wendy Low writes poetry, prose, performance poetry, and drama. Her poems, stories, and essays have been published in Breaking the Silence, Desperate Acts, HazMat Review, Napalm Health Spa, Rochester Woman, on “The Poet’s Walk,” and elsewhere. A former college English instructor, she has more than 30 years of experience in making creative writing enjoyable to beginning writers and helping writers of all levels improve their craft. Currently a freelance writing coach and editor, as former Director of Education at Writers & Books, she edited hundreds of student anthologies.
Workshops are conducted EST via Zoom, a virtual platform that allows you to participate in exercises and contribute to group conversation. To participate, please register by the deadline using the ticket portal below, or go to Scholarships. Zoom links are emailed to registered participants.
