In this workshop, we will read poems out loud, discuss their craft elements, how they engage us as readers, play with meaning, and invite participation. Each poem will prompt new writing and offer new strategies to take away. We’ll look at poems from Naomi Shihab Nye, Billy Collins, Miller Williams, Kenneth Koch, Marcus Jackson, Ted Kooser, and John Thornberg.
After retiring from teaching French, Kitty Jospé has offered workshops and courses on different approaches to writing and understanding poetry at Writers & Books and other local venues. As a docent at the Memorial Art Gallery since 1998, she has enjoyed presentations that combine art and word, as well as impressionist music and art. Her poetry appears in many anthologies, journals such as Atlanta Review, The Ekphrastic Review, Zingara, Rundelania. Four of her books are published by FootHills; Cadences, (2009); Golden Smoke (2015), Twilight Venus (2018) and forthcoming this fall, Sum:1.
