Panel by Panel: Storytelling in Comics and Manga | Ages: 12-14
August 1 @ EST 1:00 pm - August 5 @ EST 4:00 pm$150
In this new camp you will learn the art of transforming a written story into a comic. We’ll look at and discuss media that has been made in both word and image formats to discover the elements that go into an adaptation. Throughout the week we’ll examine a wide variety of examples ranging from Batman to the Animorphs to your own favorites, and try a number of exercises to gain new skills. You’ll learn the art of storyboarding, pacing and flow for a graphic story, and layout—including the magic of what happens between panels. For a final project you will choose any story that you want—a scene, a few pages from a favorite book, or even something you wrote yourself—to turn into a comic. While visual artists are welcome, no previous art experience is necessary, as the focus will be on the story.
