Ravi Mangla Fiction Workshop: The Sentence as an Event
April 19 @ EST 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
$40.00
What makes a powerful sentence? How do you write sentences that worm their way into the ear and propel the reader forward? In this workshop, we’ll analyze the anatomy of compelling sentences by looking at a range of authors, including Christine Schutt, Michael Ondaatje, and Jamaica Kincaid. You will have time and opportunity to practice writing and receiving feedback on dynamic sentences of your own, and will leave the workshop with a toolkit for elevating your practice.
Ravi Mangla is the author of The Observant (Spuyten Duyvil) and Understudies (Outpost19). His writing has appeared in The Atlantic, The Nation, Jacobin, The Kenyon Review, Cincinnati Review, Mid-American Review, Salon, The Paris Review Daily, Quarterly West, American Short Fiction, Tin House Online, and the Los Angeles Review of Books. He lives in Rochester, NY.
