Sarah Cedeño: Not Something We Discuss Often
May 30 @ EST 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Free – $20.00
Sarah Cedeño’s debut nonfiction collection Not Something We Discuss Often (Harbor Editions, 2022) explores womanhood and illness through essays ranging from recounting a reiki healing her family organized after a diagnosis to the discovery of her great aunt’s hoarding when her father inherited her house. The collection seeks to understand how illness, whether invisible, whether physical, can isolate and undo some aspects of life, but also can reveal power and value in others.
“In essays you’ll return to again and again, Cedeño makes space for everything, all together. Read her debut collection . . . and see how the path to navigate our broken, beautiful lives becomes brighter.” –Jill Christman
Sarah Cedeño’s work has appeared in Brevity, The Journal, The Baltimore Review, The Rumpus, Hippocampus Magazine, Bellevue Literary Review, and elsewhere. Sarah lives in Brockport, NY, with her husband, two sons, some old ghosts, and a dog. She teaches writing at SUNY College at Brockport.
The author will be joined in conversation with Sarah Freligh, author of five books, most recently Sad Math, winner of the 2014 Moon City Press Poetry Prize and the 2015 Whirling Prize from the University of Indianapolis. Her A Brief Natural History of Women is forthcoming in June 2023 from Harbor Editions.
