Song Lyric Writing

August 4, 2015 @ EST 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

$116

This course will improve the student’s ability to write words to music. Students will enhance their skills by completing writing exercises and assignments. The result will be lyrics that are clear, concise, and creative. Besides the usual topics of meter, rhyme, and form, students will learn concepts not widely known outside of songwriting circles. These topics include how to start writing a lyric quickly and how to write an effective lyric by examining words within the title of the song. Other topics are pulse points, blocking a song, contrast, finding the lyrical approach and a host of other tricks, tips, and techniques used by professional songwriters. The ability to read and write music is not necessary. This class will focus on the written word. Students will work from the instructor’s book, Your Lyric- Writing Workbook. This is a 270-page textbook designed to educate writers in the art of writing words to music. One of the objects of this class is to assist writers to be better communicators, no matter what their discipline. Writers of poetry will especially enjoy the class.
