Stand-up Comedy

Stand-up comedy is the art of writing jokes blended with the art of performing them. In this six-week supportive experiential workshop, students will learn the basics of comedy writing and performing. Students will develop original material outside of class and perform each week for one another in a supportive atmosphere. Some in-class writing exercises will take place. Material covered will include types of humor, style, attitude, segues, ad lib, microphone usage, juxtaposition joke writing, and progressive comedy.The class will culminate with a show the final day. No experience necessary; beginners and experienced performers welcome. The instructor is a performer who is active on the Rochester comedy scene and a three-time finalist in the Funniest Person in Rochester competition. “[Stand-up Comedy] was fun, inspiring, and has given me something to work toward!” -Kimberly Rouleau
