Survey of Prison Writing

February 23, 2017 @ EST 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

$35

From Sir Walter Raleigh to Oscar Wilde to Martin Luther King Jr., there is a rich history of literature produced or inspired by time spent behind bars. In this three-session reading seminar we will explore some well-known texts of the past as well as current writing being done in the US prison system, reflecting on inspiration, content, and craft. Some texts are available online (links will be provided before first class). For an additional $10 fee paid to the instructor, others will be provided as handouts. This class is in coordination with the 2017 Rochester Reads program, which will be highlighting the novel The Enchanted by Rene Denfield.
