|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every week that begins at 6:30 pm on Wednesday, repeating until November 20, 2019

Evening Workshop: 6 Sessions, Wednesdays
October 16 – November 20, 6:30-9pm
Instructor: Brian Wood

Deadline to register: October 8, 11:59pm

If you’re passionate about reading and writing fiction, or maybe you’re just looking for a little feedback, this course is for you. Through the analysis of character, voice, plot, and narrative flow, you will learn how to effectively put your creative ideas on paper. You can look forward to thoughtful, engaging class discussions on the craft of fiction and how to strengthen your writing through close reading and self-editing. The majority of class time centers on the critique and analysis of student work; accordingly, every participant is expected to share a piece of their writing (up to 12 double spaced pages) for the class to read and edit. The last class will allow each student the opportunity to share their work with a public audience.

Brian Wood is the author of Joytime Killbox, a collection of stories published byBOA Editions. He has served as the Managing Editor of Reed Magazine and the Fiction Editor for POST. He holds an MFA in Creative Writing from San Jose State University, and his work earned him a Ludwig Scholarship for Excellence in Creative Writing, as well as the James Phelan Award for Short Fiction and Familiar Essays. He lives in Rochester, NY, where he is the co-host of the Two Month Review podcast produced by Open Letter Press. He can be found on Twitter at @BrianWood_.
