“The Hand You Extend in Friendship”: Choosing a Title for Your Poem (new)

What’s the work of a poem’s title? According to Pulitzer-prize winning poet Ted Kooser, titles “represent the hand you extend in friendship toward your reader.” In this short class, we’ll look at some of the ways published poems gesture to the reader as well as come up with fitting titles for our own poems. You will submit electronic copies of two poems (no longer than one page each) whose titles need surgery and we will work on those titles together!
