The Lyric Essay

June 2, 2018 @ EST 10:00 am - 1:00 pm

$88.00

Lyric. Essay. How do these two fit together? In this advanced class we will learn about this subgenre of the personal essay that includes such forms as collage and hermit crabs. Consider experiences too dangerous to write about. What if you found the right shell to put it in? Come for the playfulness of language and the notes of a lyre. Make leaps and associations. As Deborah Tall of the Seneca Review once said of the lyric essay: …”It stalks its subject like quarry but is never content to merely explain or confess. It elucidates through the dance of its own deliberating.” Must have memoir or personal essay experience.
