Tyler Barton: Eternal Night at the Nature Museum

Tyler Barton will be in conversation with Kevin Wilson.

Loss and rediscovery occupy the heart of this adventurous debut collection. The characters in Eternal Night at the Nature Museum find refuge in strange, repurposed spaces: a middle-aged addict emcees a demolition derby, which transforms into a hostel, then a cult; a church congregates in an abandoned Hardee’s; octogenarians escape their nursing home; unsupervised children sell knives to the neighborhood. In twenty vivid, rowdy, buoyant stories–ranging from one-page flashes to thirty-page odysseys–Barton assembles a collection of unforgettable safe havens perfect for crashing, even if only for a night.

Tyler Barton is the author of The Quiet Part Loud (2019), winner of the Turnbuckle Chapbook Contest from Split Lip Press. His short fiction has been published widely in such journals and magazines as Kenyon Review, Electric Literature, The Iowa Review, Gulf Coast, Cincinnati Review, Copper Nickel and others. He is the Communication Manager for the Adirondack Center for Writing and lives in Saranac Lake, NY.

Kevin Wilson is the author of five books, most recently Nothing to See Here. His fiction has appeared in Ploughshares, One Story, A Public Space, as well as The PEN/O. Henry Prize Stories 2012, Best American Short Stories 2020 and 2021, and the Pushcart Prize XLVI. He lives in Sewanee, Tennessee, where he teaches at the University of the South.
