Vision and Process in Poetry: Inspired by Monet
January 5, 2019 @ EST 12:00 pm - 3:30 pm

Poets need to learn from painters, says Horace. The Monet exhibit at Memorial Art Gallery, featuring eight paintings of the Waterloo bridge, provides a unique study of serial painting, emphasizing atmosphere instead of a subject. In this workshop, we’ll read ekphrastic poems responding to Monet paintings to identify successful use of craft and how it corresponds to Monet’s brushwork, color palette, and choice of perspective. We’ll tour the exhibit at the MAG, sketch responses with words and receive input. The object: precise, clear, and meaningful writing by imitating painting, gaining a richer craft paintbox. Museum admission included.
