|Recurring Event (See all)

$252.00

Ages: 12-14

Today’s youth are destined to be members of an expansive global community. Their responsibility is to learn from history and develop the skills to become critical and creative thinkers, cultural bridge builders, and compassionate doers. As adults, we have an obligation to prepare them for becoming civic-minded, ethical, caring members of the communities to come. This class explores the historical and cultural underpinnings of the artistic, scientific, and philosophical contributions made by indigenous American and African peoples, as well as the diverse contingent of immigrants to our country’s history. Through reading, writing, storytelling, poetry, theatre games, and learning folk songs, spirituals, and freedom songs, we will revisit seminal periods in our country’s history.
