Windows: Writing in the Gallery with Almeta Whitis and David Bleich

David Bleich’s “Windows,” a stunning collection of large-scale urban window and landscape photo images, is fertile ground for teens and tweens’ creativity. Guided by master artists and elders Whitis and Bleich, participants, ages 12 – 18, will be encouraged to respond to depictions of the urban landscape with their personal stories and deepen their experience of the intersection between visual and textual storytelling.
David Bleich is an accomplished photographer specializing in large scale photos. Almeta Whitis, Writers & Books’ Storyteller in Residence, is a renowned storyteller, theatre artist, author, and poet who has taught on five continents. Combining diverse stories and traditions, alongside history, she encourages students to explore movement, dance, film, and the visual arts; and helps them gain knowledge of academic subjects and the world at large. Her experience as an educator, university professor, and Master Teaching Artist has resulted in many awards, among them, the National Endowment for the Arts ‘ Most Skilled and Experienced Community Artist and Governor Cuomo’s 1993 Decade of the Child Award. She was featured in Rochester Museum and Science Center’s “CHANGEMAKERS: 200 Rochester Women Who Have Changed The World” exhibition.
This is a special youth event for participants age 12 – 18.
