Writing About Art: Giving the Visual Arts Voice, Giving Words Image

Has a painting ever inspired you to write? Ekphrasis is writing that responds to art. Using the Memorial Art Gallery and prompts from poem tiles on “Poets Walk” located between Goodman and Prince on University, students will examine how art—both painting and sculpture—and words enhance each other. In addition, students will learn about the many new acquisitionsat the MAG such as the Grayson Perry vase, the portrait of Qusuquzah by Mickalene Thomas, and the Three Fujins by Hung Liu to explore creative writing prompts.
