“Fear of Poetry” workshop for Teachers

Rochester, NY – Long time educator and Writers & Books instructor MJ Iuppa will be leading a workshop for secondary ELA teachers on March 2nd and 16th form 9:30 am to 12:30 pm. The full title is Fear of Poetry: Overcoming Barriers and Engaging your Students in Poetry and costs $79 for Writers & Books members and $90 for general public. These half day workshop will spend time :

  • Building a basic foundation for teaching poetry
  • Offering fresh insight on important literary devices such as rhythm, metaphor, alliteration, and onomatopoeia
  • Introducing contemporary and culturally diverse poets
  • Focusing on sparking students interests

MJ will be giving teachers concrete exercises to bring back to their classrooms. Everyone will walk away with a resource packet and a wealth of ideas and inspiration.
