Teen Slam Poetry Team headed to DC

The Breathing Fire Teen Slam Poetry team is entering it’s final weeks of prep before heading off to Washington DC to compete in the national teen poetry competition, Brave New Voices, on July 12.

Slam meet-ups started out as a bi-weekly session at Press Coffee Bar. Sessions started with a free writing workshop that led right into Slam, all led by Roc Bottom Slam Team, Rochester’s own adult poetry slam team.

At the end of April, teens from the Rochester community participated in the Breathing Fire: Grand Slam at the Rochester Academy of Medicine. Four participants were chosen to move on to represent the Slam team.

On Friday, July 8, the Slam team will be showcasing their talents at the Charleston House for their ‘Teen Poetry Slam Send-Off‘. This will be the community’s last chance to hear these incredible youth poets before they head to the competition.  Show starts at 8:00pm, admission is $5.00.
