Every year, 70 full-day and half-day SummerWrite camps support the basic reading and writing skills students learn in school, but reach further, tapping into creativity and inspiration, as young people discover their own passions and develop their own voices.
Our camps are led by experienced teachers–accomplished writers, performers, and artists in their own right, who also have a talent for bringing out the best from creative young minds.
SummerWrite campers choose from a wide variety of activities. They engage with the essentials of writing fiction, poems, and short stories, or take advantage of inter-sectional workshops that integrate the literary arts with the visual arts, theater, filmmaking, cooking, hands-on art making, the outdoors, and more. Many camps include field trips and are delivered in partnership with the Memorial Art Gallery, RCTV Media Center, Rochester Contemporary School of Music, and Flower City Arts Center.
SummerWrite apprenticeships and internships provide high school and college students with hands-on opportunities to gain experience in youth arts education, literary programming, and child care/youth development.
